Creek Crossing 12x12 inches - pastel on Strathmore Artagain |
As soon as I saw this view, I knew I had to paint it. Wayne crossed the creek to fish upstream a bit, and I worked until he came back, getting it probably 75% finished on location. I'm not sure why I didn't finish it up promptly; I think I was worried about ruining it. In the interim, I also purchased some additional pastels, including my now indispensable Ludwigs, which I employed here.
I feel a great sense of satisfaction having completed this painting, and am now motivated to try and finish the others that have been patiently sitting on my shelf.
A visual escape from real life snow. Nicely done.
ReplyDeleteThanks, LeAnn. We got about 7" of snow a few days ago, so it's a nice break for me :).
ReplyDeleteSomtimes a little distance helps. It's nice to go back and find inspiration to complete something that's been sitting around the studio. Very nice.
ReplyDeleteI love it Sonya. The light on the water and the bottom of the bushes is beautiful. :) And isn't that such a great feeling? Says the woman who has a stack of unfinished paintings a mile high. Tee hee. :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty and painterly! I am in love with the soft shadows on the road. And the water. And the rocks. I could go on and on. This is just gorgeous, Sonya!
ReplyDeleteLiz, Crystal and Darla - thank you ladies so much for your comments; they always make me smile and brighten my day :).
ReplyDeleteAside from a few mosquitos and deerflies, it was an absolutely beautiful day and working on the painting yesterday took me back to summer, which is probably my favorite season.
Lovely finish to this painting. I find things look totally different months later. Sometimes good - sometimes bad. It is kind of fun to find something that has sat for a while and then finish it. I like what you did.
ReplyDeleteThis has very nice lights and shadows. Another beautiful painting.
ReplyDeleteHi Ruth - thanks. I agree about how the perspective for such pieces really can change - for better or worse - if the piece sits. Looking at it with fresh eyes really helps.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Sheri - the shadows from the tree and across part of the creek were intriguing elements to this scene.
My compliments! I can travel around this painting, and it is enjoyable! My feet are wet, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Casey. There was so much interesting stuff going on, and my biggest challenge was not letting it get too out of hand, detail-wise.
ReplyDeleteWonderful painting! I'm so glad you decided to finish it.
ReplyDeleteMakes me think of Maine and all the creek crossings we run into when exploring there - and the continual debate about whether or not we attempt them.....
Thanks, Debbie - I'm glad I decided to pull it out and give it a go...and didn't ruin it.
ReplyDeleteYes, around here, we seldom take the chance of crossing in Wayne's Civic. In my Wrangler isn't a problem, of course, but we rarely drive it.
